BABY JUDO (Wednesday 16:30-17:30) – for preschoolers

BABY JUDO is an all-round pre-school preparation for preschool children, focusing on combat sports. We strive to cultivate in children the habits necessary for consistent sports training later in life. We are dedicated to developing children’s strength, speed, agility and endurance, especially through fun exercises, games and competitions. Children will also gain basic knowledge and skills in etiquette, ethics, rules and history of judo.

Baby judo is suitable for all boys and girls. Even those who would find it harder to participate in other sports because they are chubbier or seemingly less skilled are involved with success. Judo really is a sport for almost everyone. Baby Judo trains on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Training for this group takes place in the judo hall, where we mainly do preparatory exercises for judo and grappling games, developing the children’s motor versatility.

JUDO CHILDREN – BEGINNERS BASIC 2 (Tuesdays 17:00-18:30) – for children in 3rd to 7th grade

JUDO CHILDREN – BEGINNERS BASIC 1 (Wednesday 16:30-17:30) – for children in 1st and 2nd grade

JUDO CHILDREN – MODERATE ADVANCED (Wednesday 5:30-7:00pm) – a follow-up group to baby judo and beginners for one year of club attendance, but for children ages 7 to 10

JUDO CHILDREN – ADVANCED (Mondays and Thursdays 5:30-7 p.m.)

Kids is a group focused on acquiring special judo skills. We cultivate in children the habits necessary for continuous sports training. We are dedicated to the development of strength, speed, agility and endurance of children, especially in the form of preparatory exercises, fun games and competitions. Children also gain knowledge and skills in the areas of etiquette, ethics , rules and history of judo.

Beginners and younger children learn basic judo skills such as falls, special exercises and simple techniques for fighting on the ground and in the stance. They demonstrate their skills with the so-called sherpas, which is a system of auxiliary levels of technical maturity that we have created in our club (see Judo – sherpas). More advanced judoists learn new techniques for fighting in the stance and on the ground, their combinations and countermoves. Gradually, they acquire levels of technical maturity – kyu. They participate in tournaments and long-term competitions. All of them collect points for participation and activity in trainings and tournaments all year round for the annual TOP TEN competition of the club. At the end of the calendar year, the top ten children receive valuable prizes and the winner also receives the title of Best of the Best and a traveling club trophy for the whole next year. Judo is suitable for all boys and girls. Even those who would find it harder to apply themselves in other sports because they are chubbier or seemingly less skilled can come. Judo really is a sport for almost everyone. It is not absolutely necessary to attend both sessions, although it is understandably better. If you can’t do otherwise, it is possible to practice once a week. The training sessions are designed so that children can join in at any time of the year, if you want to come and give it a try, you will definitely enjoy your time with us.

ADULTS (Mondays 7:00-8:30pm, Wednesdays 7:00-8:30pm and Thursdays 7:00-8:30pm)

In the adult group, we have several competitors who participate in domestic and international tournaments. However, most of us are involved in judo on a social and fitness level.
The conditioning part is focused on acquiring and developing special judo skills. Of course, we also devote ourselves to the development of strength, speed, agility and endurance. Beginners will learn basic judo skills such as falls, special drills and simple techniques for fighting on the ground and standing. They will also gain knowledge and skills in etiquette, ethics, rules and judo history. Advanced judo students study new standing and ground fighting techniques, their combinations and counter moves. Gradually they acquire the student’s level of technical maturity – kyu. In addition, coaches attend seminars and training sessions to increase their qualifications and technical maturity and to best pass on their experience to others. They obtain master degrees of technical maturity – dan. Children and adults participate in weekend technical and summer fitness camps. The social part is at least as important as the fitness part.

We meet often and like to meet outside of training. On weekends we go to the mountains, on bikes or on the water. We organize various day trips. From time to time we sit down in the evening, discuss everything more and less important …. Judo is really a sport for almost everyone. In the adult group, there are men and women from 15 years old to very advanced age. Each person, according to his/her health and time possibilities, determines how much time he/she will devote to judo and whether he/she prefers the fitness part or the social part. The ideal is, of course, to do both. Adults train on Mondays from 19.00 to 20.30, Wednesdays from 19.00 to 20.30 and Thursdays from 19.00 to 20.30 in the judo hall. It is not absolutely necessary to attend all the training sessions, although it is obviously best. It is enough to practice even once a week. We are one of the few clubs in Prague that accepts complete beginners of all (and advanced) ages. The only condition is the desire to try something new. So don’t be afraid and if you want, come and try judo with us.

The history of the JC Tatran Praha club goes back to the 70s of the last century. Enthusiastic judo players trained in the Tatran Praha 7 Sports Union, which united several different sports. Among them was also a judo section. Judo coaches also organised self-defence courses, which were in great demand at that time. Even before 1989, judo players managed to travel abroad several times and participated in international friendly competitions. After 1989 the judoists decided to become independent and founded the civic association Judo Club Tatran Instalace Praha. The word Instalace was included in the name of the club as a thank you to the main sponsor. Among the founders of the civic association at that time were Radek Podrabský, who became the first chairman of the club, as well as Jaroslav Štoček, Jiří Plíva, Dana Satscheková and Bivoj Kalaš. The club used the gym in Veletržní Street for its training. However, at the beginning of the nineties it was forced to leave these premises and it was necessary to find new ones, preferably in Prague 7. We trained in these premises for many years. Thanks to the size of the gym, judo classes for children including judo spawning from the age of 6 could be developed there. The main coaches at that time were Jaroslav Štoček and Bivoj Kalaš, Pepa Myslivec and Dana Satscheková.

In 2006 we were forced to move again. We left the premises of Gymnasium nad Štolou and agreed with Sokol Bubeneč. We had a dojo, but it was a big change for us. The premises in Sokol were much smaller than the ones we were used to. But even that didn’t discourage us and we train there with pleasure until now. We got our own tatami and children and adults train here even 3 times a week. A great success can be considered the creation of a training group of baby judo, where judo players from 5 years of age, and which is the hatchery of our competitive elite. We are exceptional in the fact that anyone can start judo with us at any age, whether they consider it a sport or a philosophy of life. This is what sets us apart from the rest and we are rightly proud of it
